Brewing Recipes To Start With – Summer 2015

Here are a few recipes to get you started off. We used Brewer’s Friend brewing calculator for these. These should be a nice way to celebrate summer, with the addition of a dark wheat recipe for you contrarian types.
Now if you’re confused about all of these acronyms and things, that’s OK, you can still brew the beer and it will turn out fine. For those who are curious, we’ll explain them in a few upcoming posts and videos.

Method: Extract
Style: American IPA
Boil Time: 60 min
Batch Size: 4.5 liters (fermentor volume)
Boil Size: 3 liters
Efficiency: 40% (steeping grains only)
Original Gravity: 1.062
Final Gravity: 1.014
ABV (standard): 6.36%
IBU (tinseth): 50.8
SRM (morey): 12.39

Fermentables
0.7 kg Dry Malt Extract – Golden Light

Steeping Grains
0.3 kg – Caramel / Crystal Malt
(Strain and add with the second hop addition)

Hops
14 g – Cascade – 60 min
10 g – Cascade – 15 min
20 g – Cascade – Dry Hop for 5 days. Add when fermentation activity has slowed (usually wait about a week)

Yeast: American Ale Yeast
Attenuation (custom): 78%

Batch Size: 4.5 liters (fermentor volume)
Boil Size: 3 liters
Efficiency: 40% (steeping grains only)
Original Gravity: 1.044
Final Gravity: 1.010
ABV (standard): 4.53%
IBU (tinseth): 14.6
SRM (morey): 6.25

Fermentables
0.5 kg – Dry Malt Extract – Pilsen Light

Steeping Grains (strain and add for the last 20 minutes of boil time)
0.1 kg – Caramel / Crystal 30L
0.1 kg – Rye

Hops
3 g – Pride of Ringwood – 60 min
10 g – Galaxy – Dry Hop for 5 days. Add when fermentation activity has slowed.

Yeast: American Ale Yeast
Attenuation (custom): 78%
